Learning is a Part of Life

II Timothy 2:15 says: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (NIV)

Teachers/Disciples continue to learn. There is nothing more frustrating and disappointing than to hear someone say, “I have learned all I want to learn.” As long as there is breath, we continue to learn and allow God to shape us (See Jeremiah 18.)

Today I want to encourage you to seek continual training. If you are a public school teacher, lawyer, doctor, nurse and other professional vocations, you are expected to experience continued education/learning every year. We have a bigger responsibility than all of the above as Sunday School/Bible study teachers. We are asked to facilitate a discussion of God’s Word (alive and transforming.)

When was the last time you sought to learn new ways to share God’s Word? When was the last time you chose to attend a training event to sharpen your skills in sharing God’s Word in an ever changing world? I want to encourage you to find some training.

There are two ways we can assist you right now:

(1)   We have an extensive Sunday School training for all age groups (and deacon training as well) on Saturday, May 4th at Eagle Eyrie in Lynchburg from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. You can go to: http://vbmb.org/Networks/Leadership/The-Gathering/default.cfm to get more information. Deadline to sign up is Tuesday!

(2)   I have Sunday School consultants across the state of Virginia ready to help. I have recently set up experienced consultants in your area of Virginia. It is best to get your association involved and we can set up a training event for teachers of all age groups. Contact me at: tony.brooks@vbmb.org to get started.

Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.  Abigail Adams (1744 – 1818),
